What it means to grow older
It means that every day a little bit of your childhood dies. Today that bit was Emmett Kelly Jr., Clown. He died at the age of 83 from complications related to pneumonia. After watching his father perform his clown routine for years and years, Kelly Jr. joined the circus circuit in 1960. He took on Weary Willie, the character his father created, and wore him to perfection. For many, myself included, he was clowning.
Kelly Jr. had a good sense for the business and for licensing, as you can tell from an inspection of his website. He died in Arizona after having made his home in Tombstone there. I wish I had know when I visited the town, I would have liked to thank him personally.
